Job Description:
Our Client is the UK's leading waste-to-energy biodiesel producer with operations in Scotland and North West England and has always been privately owned. Their main plant, near Motherwell in Scotland, started production in 2005. Following significant investment to facilitate growth and development, a number of facilities are being built in the Stanlow area. The Company specialises in the production and supply of high grade, sustainable diesel made from waste fats and oils deliberately excluding any raw materials that could also be used for food or feed.
They are currently looking to recruit for a Quality Manager to ensure that the Company produces products that are fit for purpose, and meets both external and internal requirements, including legal compliance and customer expectations. Understand customer needs and requirements to develop effective quality control processes.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Operational Activities
- Ensure that processes needed for the Quality Management System (QMS) are established, implemented and maintained
- To understand customer needs and requirements to develop effective quality control processes.
- Liaise with the external assessment body on all matters related to the external accreditation process
- Work towards ISO 9001 accreditation across all sites
- Responsible for the approval of all blending tank authorisations
- Ensure that a document control procedure is adopted to approve, review and update all changes to critical documents within the scope of the QMS
- Ensure that records are established and maintained to provide evidence that the QMS is being followed and that there is a system in place for the identification, storage, protection, retrieval, retention time and disposition of such records
- Ensure that Quality Objectives are set by management for measuring the performance of the Quality function and QMS and that these are regularly reviewed
- Ensure that all new staff are inducted into the requirements of the QMS related to their own roles and responsibilities. Provide update training as necessary
- Co-ordinate continual improvements of the QMS, ensuring that evidence of corrective and preventive actions taken are recorded and reviewed
- Identify recurring quality problems (both internal and external), initiate root cause analysis and develop solutions
- Monitor and control changes within manufacturing ensuring and assuring quality is preserved
- Develop appropriate standards for all raw material and final products (including fertiliser and glycerine)
- Lead organisation in developing solutions to recurring and/or ongoing quality problems
- Design and manage data collection processes with a view to implementing data driven quality improvement
- Promote a quality first culture within the business ensuring customer focus at all times
- Ensure that all suppliers used by the organisation are selected, evaluated and re-evaluated and that records of this assessment are maintained
- Ensure regular assessments of customer satisfaction and that consequent improvements are identified and implemented
- People management of direct reports both in a day to day context and also from an employee development view point to achieve operational excellence
- Work closely with Operations to set requirements for raw material or intermediate products for suppliers and monitor their compliance
- Ensure adherence to health and safety guidelines as well as legal obligations
- Oversee all product development procedures to identify deviations from quality standards
Qualifications/ Knowledge & Experience
Qualifications
- A degree in a relevant area, e.g. business management, engineering or manufacturing
Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- Experience in a similar industry desirable (e.g., FMCG, manufacturing, chemical production)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to produce high quality statistical analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including high quality report writing
