Are you an Engineering or Maintenance Manager who comes from a manufacturing or production background and is now looking for a role offering the opportunity for technical development and progression?

My client is a leading manufacturing business who are currently looking for a highly experienced maintenance professional to join there management team. The ideal candidate will have experience of maintaining a heavy plant based production facility ensuring minimal downtime across many of its individual departments. You will also have prior knowledge of managing the annual Maintenance budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards.

Role Summary:

The main purpose of the role is to provide a strong lead for both proactive and reactive site maintenance activities. 
This will involve auditing, planning and working to created and agreed schedules for planned works as well as assessing non planned activities.  
The post holder will manage a team of employed staff and contractors and will have budgetary responsibility to arrange the appropriate works to meet the key business objectives and strategy in accordance with both company policies and procedures and relevant legislation. 
Implementing and managing continuous improvement within the manufacturing environment by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in working practises and processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Effectively delegate any maintenance issues to be resolved on each shift and small projects to the right skills in the team, planning and managing effective works and machine availability, reactively managing dysfunctional machinery with the Shift management
  • Provide technical expertise to the team
  • Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required
  • Manage contractors on site to ensure they meet legal and company requirements
  • Adhere to daily and weekly checks to ensure smooth operation of site
  • Develop a Planned Service & Preventative Maintenance schedule, ensure full preventative maintenance is carried out, plan in missed maintenance activities, and lead the team to deliver effectively
  • Schedule both internal and external work(s) maximising planned down time and reducing unplanned downtime
  • Ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements of a variety of electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems are undertaken
  • Ensure that designated buildings, plant and facilities are fit for purpose and to provide proactive support/solutions when required 

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree is preferred, or HND, BTEC Professional Level 5 Award or equivalent NVQ Level 5 qualification
  • Extensive plant level experience with significant proven man management experience
  • Completed a fully indentured apprenticeship with a mechanical/ electrical/ electronic discipline
  • Technical capability and understanding
  • Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), lean manufacturing
  • Experience of managing Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibilities for maintenance
  • Understanding of manufacturing and procurement/supply chain
  • Understanding of TS16949, IOSH/NEBOSH, ISO 14001
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body such as the Institute of Manufacturing
