Introduction:
Our client is a leading supplier of products to the construction and highways industries. Due to continued expansion they are now recruiting for a Plant Engineering Manager to join their team at their site in Frome, Somerset. The successful candidate will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant on a day to day basis in conjunction with the Supervisor/Operators. Scheduling of the work should aim to supply products to meet customers' demand at the lowest cost and highest productivity whilst maintaining product quality. The role will also necessitate the planning of materials being required to fulfil these objectives.

This is an exciting opportunity to work for an established and reputable company. Although not essential, this may be suited to candidates coming from an Armed Forces background i.e. Royal Navy (Marine Engineer), British Army (Royal Engineer/REME), Royal Air Force (Aircraft Technician), with proven experience in an engineering management capacity and a strong mechanical/plant engineering background.

Responsibilities:
- Ensuring all works are planned and carried out safely to the companies standards.
- Volume forecasting on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Customer liaison and feedback; volume demand, monitor stocks and sales, production issues, quality.
- Managing the plants by the use of the KPI's and monitoring.
- Efficient scheduling, maintenance and stock control.
- Organisation of plant operators on a daily basis.
- Managing and organising planned preventative maintenance for effective operation and reduced unplanned downtime.
- Regular contact with operators about orders, customer information.
- Fuel, bitumen and lube purchasing via company agreed contracts.
- Weekend duties as per a rota system.
- Check the orders on a daily basis and liaise with Distribution team to ensure that all deliveries and loading times are as efficiently planned to ensure correct material delivered at right time and in accordance of running the plants as efficiently as possible.
- Regular liaison with other departments.
- A general administrative requirement for the operation of the department, such as purchase orders, entropy information, safety requirements, and PI's and PO's as required.
- Carry out occasional customer visits from time to time as required.
- Undertaking other specific tasks or responsibilities as may be required from time to time.
- Ensure a continued reduction in downtime by way of planned preventative maintenance.

Applicant Requirements:
Essential:
- Heavy Engineering background with mechanical bias and relevant qualification.
- Strong people management background.
- Health & Safety knowledge with relevant qualification.
- Effective planning and organisation skills with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Highly organised.
- Decision maker with the ability solve problems.
- Committed and flexible approach.
- IT literate.
- Clean UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Current first aid certificate.
- Hold IQ DAPS qualification.
