Company
Our client is an Australian based clean and remote energy company, owned by the Duet Group an entity which is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange #ASX# under the ASX code DUE. The company's main activities are in the areas of building, owning and operating clean / remote energy. The Company currently owns and operates a diversified international portfolio of 80 power stations in Australia, the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom with a total capacity of over 933 MW from a range of fuel sources. They operate and manage 10 landfill sites across the UK powering reciprocating gas generators producing a high power output.
A rare and exciting opportunity has emerged for an up and coming Commercial Finance Director to really contribute and make a difference to the UK business. This will be an Interim appointment for 6 months with high likelihood of an extension to 12 months and a possibility of a permanent appointment.
The Role
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer for the UK, your key objective will be to provide outstanding financial and commercial leadership to the business, helping to shape company strategy and deliver against its strategic and financial goals. You will have the gravitas to exert influence at all levels, creating a robust and active culture of financial rigour, adherence to procedures and cost control throughout the major profit centres. The right candidate will contribute significantly and bring valuable insight and analysis to the company's monthly financial performance, leveraging the full range of commercial, contractual and operational opportunities available to maximise financial results.
Most importantly, you will be expected to foster a culture of transparency throughout the business, allowing senior management to anticipate and deal with challenges: this will require a hands-on approach to commercial challenges and contract management, management systems, internal controls and forecasting. Summary of key responsibilities:
Strategy - Maintain the company's commercial strategic plan. Work with senior colleagues on M&A opportunities.
Leadership – Functional responsibility for Finance and Reporting, Commercial Contracts, Procurement, Financial Analysis, IT.
Financial Controls, policies and procedures - Re-enforce Group and Company policies and procedures with special attention to Capital Expenditure approval.
Reporting - Develop a robust, scalable reporting of business operational and financial performance with appropriate commentary from local to board level.
Commercial inputs - Proactive management of the company's commercial relationships with Landfill Operators to strengthen ties, creating opportunities for further growth.
Person
We are searching for a talented professional with an aptitude for leading Finance and Commercial business improvement in an operational environment. Common sense and an inquisitive and logical mind-set will hold you in good stead. Knowledge of the UK energy regulatory framework and an appreciation of the Landfill Gas infrastructure would be a distinct advantage. We would also consider an individual who is has the right commitment and drive and is possibly looking to make their first move into a Finance Directors position.
- Qualified CCAB accountant with at least 3-5 years' credible experience at senior level in a multi-site service environment
- Solid communication, people management and leadership skills
- Good systems skills and project management experience
- Well established change management skills and credentials for driving business improvement
- Accuracy and attention to detail, results driven with a demonstrated ability to work at pace
- Well established commercial skills, solid negotiator, backed
- Proven relationship builder and experience in nurturing long term relationships
