DSO Technology Support Apprentice

(Data, Comms & Network Management System)

Starting salary £18,100 per year  

Western Power Distribution are looking for people to join their formal apprenticeship scheme to work in Surf Telecoms, IR Comms or DSO Technology Support.

This role involves working in a team that is responsible for the management, functionality and development of all the real time computer systems that manage the electricity network. In addition, this team is also responsible for the cyber security systems required to protect the electricity network.

Successful candidates will have at least, or be expected to achieve, two ‘A’ levels at grades A – C in Mathematics and one of the following; Physics, ICT, Computing or Design and Technology. Alternatively a relevant Level 3 or Level 4 qualification will be considered. Please ensure that you provide details of your qualifications on your application form, and be prepared to provide proof of these qualifications upon request. You must also clearly state the team and location that you wish to apply for – refer to the attached list of teams and locations.

Training will be provided on-the-job and during formal courses held in our Training Centre at Taunton over a period of approximately four years. Successful candidates will also be expected to study for, and achieve a City and Guilds Qualification.

The majority of the on-the-job training will take place within local teams, but you may be required to undertake placements at other locations across the WPD service area, so you need to be flexible and able to travel.
