Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is looking to recruit a Planning Officer. The area has 170,000 residents, 7 miles of waterfront, an international airport, university and fantastic transport links to London and surrounding areas. The team is a forward thinking team and recently awarded Development Management Team of the Year. We have a number of exciting projects in the pipeline, from a major mixed-use regeneration scheme, to a football stadium and seafront and leisure development.

The offices have undergone an extensive multi million pound refurbishment over the last year to provide an open plan environment which is both comfortable and conducive to gaining the most out of staff which in turn provides an excellent experience to both customers and applicants.

The responsibilities include:

*Providing support to the Area Planning Officer in advising external customers, clerical and technical support and enforcement officers.

*Dealing with a proportion of planning applications including informal enquiries, negotiations and appeals which would include preparation of written representation statements.

*Attendance of public inquiries and informal hearings will be expected as required.

*Guiding the registration team on requirements necessary for consultation, notification, publicity etc, on registering applications.

*Preparing of reports to committee, formulations of conditions of approvals and reason for refusals to present at committee stage.

*Liaising with other groups and departments to ensure correct implementation to targets and aims.

Southend Borough Council is looking for the right candidate who is highly motivated and who is looking to thrive within a busy environment and progress their career. You will be enhancing your skills on a range of challenging Development Management projects. Having a strong background knowledge of planning legislation and planning issues is essential, as is experience of the Development Management processes. Having access to own transport is necessary for carrying out site visits. Someone who is able to organise their time and manage workloads to have tasks completed within set time periods.
