Housing & Welfare Service, Stoke

Full Time (37 hours per week)

Salary: £22,039 - £27,373 (Band 3)

An opportunity as arisen to join the Housing and Welfare Service.

The role will include completing housing and welfare needs assessments, putting in place action plans to address the indentified needs, signposting and referring to partner agencies, assisting service users to source and retain accommodation and liaison with other relevant organisations.

The role will also include delivering the Housing and Welfare group work programme.

The role will also involve acting as a Point Of Contact for prison/community based case managers to assist them with any housing and welfare related enquires

The Ideal person will have

  • An awareness of the support needs of offenders (Essential)
  • Experience of assisting individuals to access suitable settled accommodation options i.e. Private Rented Sector properties, local accredited housing providers and supported housing providers (Desirable)
  • The ability to identify and target appropriate approaches for clients including those unwilling to engage with services, providing assertive outreach and the use of peer mentors and volunteer support (Desirable)
  • Some knowledge of homelessness legislation (Desirable)
  • Some Knowledge of Finance, Benefit and Debt issues, including Benefit
  • Entitlement and Eligibility (Desirable)
  • The ability to maintain accurate and comprehensive records on clients, shared with appropriate partner agencies when necessary (Essential 
  • Have excellent communication skills (Essential)
  • Be able to work on own initiative but also as part of a team (Essential)
  • Have a flexible attitude and be prepared to travel in order to carry out tasks associated with the role (Essential)
  • Experience of delivering group work (Desirable)
  • Good IT skills and knowledge of IT systems (Essential)
  • Able to evidence a commitment to anti-discriminatory practice (Essential)

General Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the effectiveness of offender supervision and the reduction of offending by managing a case load of offenders in need of housing advice and assistance prior to release from custody and in the community
  • Contribute towards the development and delivery of a quality Housing and Welfare service for offenders.
  • To undertake any other duties which fall reasonably within the nature, grade and responsibilities of the post for example attending partnership meetings, training.
