Independent Living Skills services are provided in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan via Families First funding. Additional short term funding has been received from the Welsh Government’s Intermediate Care Fund (ICF) to further develop and enhance this provision. The services offer bespoke targeted interventions to young disabled people aged 14-25 (in Cardiff) and 14-21 (in the Vale of Glamorgan).
Disabled young people develop the skills they need to live as independently as possible and make a good transition to adulthood in. These include: money management, community safety, personal safety, pedestrian skills, personal shopping, cleaning, socialising, personal hygiene, internet safety and many others.
The main purpose of this role is to provide advice, support and services to children, young people and their families via our Independent Living Skills Service we help young people to achieve: greater independence, increased confidence, improved life skills and increased access to the local community to enjoy activities of their own choice.
The successful post holder will ideally have;
- Experience of facilitating groups and or leading training sessions.
- Experience of the differing cultural needs and backgrounds of individual young people.
- Experience of liaison with a range of external Agencies.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting disabled young people.
- The ability to travel throughout the Locality to meet the requirements of the post.
Although this contract has a permanent status, please be aware that this post is subject to funding until 31st March 2018 and therefore should this funding not be extended further, you may be subject to a redundancy consultation or a TUPE arrangement
