Our Client

Our Client aims to accelerate the development of fusion energy by combining two emerging technologies - spherical tokamaks and high-temperature superconductors.

The company was originally established in 2009 to design and develop small Spherical Tokamaks and compact fusion reactors for a range of applications. Since then, the strategy has evolved to prioritise building a pilot plant to exceed fusion energy breakeven.

Person and Job Specification

The Role: Multi-skilled Electrical Technician required to assist with all aspects of Tokamak Design, Installation, Commissioning, and on-going works.

Duties will include

  • Involvement in specification and design of required equipment
  • Mechanical fabrication and installation
  • Vacuum System installation
  • Electrical installation work including both Power and Control
  • Instrumentation of cryogenic test equipment
  • Manufacture of prototype magnet assemblies
  • Testing and developing power electronics
  • Panel Building
  • General engineering support to Scientists and Engineers

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in fusion science and or superconducting magnets, and who wants to understand "how and why" rather than simply follow instructions.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Apprentice time served
  • 17th Edition wiring Regs

Desirable:

  • Forklift license
  • Crane license
  • Rigging and slinging

Knowledge and Experience:

Essential:

  • Vacuum Systems
  • Mechanical Fitting
  • Control Systems
  • Safety Interlock systems
  • Field Wiring Installations
  • Working from Drawings

Desirable:

  • PLC programming and interrogation
  • Welding, large scale soldering
  • Cryogenic systems integration and instrumentation
  • High current power supplies
