We have an exciting opportunity for a Support Worker to join the team based in Rhyl, Denbighshire. The successful applicant will receive a competitive salary of £7.75 per hour plus benefits including extra holidays for length of service, sickness and holiday scheme and 24 hour Employee Assistance Programme.

Our Support Worker will be a member of the support team within the overall organisation and will be required to work with young people or adults with complex support needs and who have serious challenging behaviour and/or mental health/mental disorder which may be enduring or resistant to change. (These individuals may for a variety of reasons become hostile, antagonistic, angry, verbally abusive, or physically abusive to themselves or others).
Responsibilities of our Support Worker:
- Under the guidance and supervision of an in-house registered professional (Registered Manager, Behavioural Analyst, Registered Nurse) they will provide support to service users with complex care needs and follow service delivery plans.
- As instructed by the Manager / Behavioural Team assist service users in the development or maintenance of daily living skills.
- Have effective observational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understand the need for and maintain service user confidentiality at all times but will also be aware of the need to pass information on where public safety may be compromised.
- Ensure good working relationships with service users, other staff members, relatives, other professionals and the public.
- Respond to the needs of individuals in an honest, non-judgemental and open manner, which respects the rights of individuals and groups.
- Actively engage with individuals in the provision of holistic needs led care, which takes account of the physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual needs of individuals or groups.
- Demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities for all people.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the term ‘professional boundaries’ and the ability to apply this to working with individual service users, staff members and others.
- Have an awareness where individuals rights may need to be compromised on the grounds of public safety interests
- Understand the fundamental importance of relationships to social and psychological well-being.
- Actively participate in professional development through a personal development review/staff appraisal system
- Actively participate in training and education identified in the above or as required by the organisation.
- Ensure that all compliments or complaints are reported in a timely manner to the appropriate Manager.
- Refuse any gift, favour or hospitality which might be interpreted as seeking to exert undue influence or obtain preferential treatment
- Complete all service user and personal record information in a timely and legible manner
Skills and Experience needed by our ideal Support Worker:
- It would be advantageous if you had a relevant health or social care foundation degree or NVQ / Diploma level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or relevant CQFW modules or equivalent
- Good general education
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of working with people with complex needs (including learning disability, or vulnerable young people/adults) in a health or social care setting
- Calm and consistent in both crisis and non-crisis situations
- Able to communicate positively with people with learning disabilities/complex needs and represent their needs.
- Ability to deal with episodes of directed challenging behaviour including threats, accusations, verbal and physical aggression.
- Emotionally able to support service users and colleagues with challenging emotional issues
