ETON COLLEGE
TRAINEE BUILDING SURVEYOR
Eton College is intending to recruit a Trainee Building Surveyor to join a small group of in house surveyors. The post holder will be employed within the Buildings Department of the College, which is responsible for the complete facilities management of the College estate, including the maintenance, repair and improvement of the existing buildings, as well as any new development.
Eton College covers more than 400 hectares and comprises in excess of 400 buildings, many of which are Grade I or II Listed. A number of the principal buildings date from the College's foundation in the 15th century and the whole of Eton is a Conservation area. However, by way of contrast, the estate also includes many buildings from the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as examples from the intervening five centuries. There is also a portfolio of properties held throughout the country for investment purposes.
The position will involve assisting qualified surveyors in the design and procurement of both minor and major building works as well as surveying buildings to assist in the preparation of maintenance schedules. There will be a necessary amount of general administrative duties, although a wide variety of workload can be guaranteed and the role will suit an enthusiastic person who wishes to pursue a career in the building profession. It will especially interest those who wish to work for a client body within a heritage environment.
The post will include provision of further training, on a day release or equivalent basis, leading to a formal qualification (ultimately to degree level and full membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors). Remuneration will be in the band of £20-24k.
Closing date: Friday 17th March 2017 at noon.
