The day-to-day duties
- The role of the Financial Controller is to take overall responsibility for the day to day running of clients' accounts department and to be the principal client contact on any financial issue.
- Account management of clients of varying size and complexity
- Managing client relationship, including time on site, ensuring delivery of high quality, profitable account management.
- Proactive problem identification and solutions delivery.
- Maintaining and improving customer satisfaction levels.
- Keeping client informed of issues and risks affecting their account.
- Defining service levels and monitoring performance against these.
- Providing sound pragmatic, commercial and professional business advice and support.
- Understanding the commercial side of accounting - understand key business drivers and risk as well as client priorities. Evaluating commercial impact of activities.
- Identifying, and discussing with client, opportunities for other services in client base and personal network.
Management of team
- The Financial Controllers responsibilities for managing delivery from a virtual team to ensure a high quality, timely and accurate service.
- Managing and inputting to performance review process, setting objectives and managing development as required.
- Managing team relations - helping team to balance multiple client requirements and identify when team needs additional support or development.
Monthly reporting packs
- Reviewing of monthly management accounts, ensuring that they are accurate and professionally presented.
- Providing appropriate narrative, identifying KPIs and reflected within the management accounts.
- Preparing budget and determination of budget assumptions.
- Preparing of profit and cash-flow forecasts.
- Ensuring management pack reflects commercial insights.
Monthly procedures
- Reviewing all client deliverables.
- Reviewing of VAT returns before submission.
- Maintaining calendar of key return and payment dates in outlook.
- Monthly validation of balance sheet.
- Reviewing month end checklist, ensuring completion on a timely basis.
- Ownership of payroll - review of payroll and involvement in queries.
- Maintaining relationship with bank manager
Year-end file preparation and monthly variation of balance sheet.
- Ownership of end to end statutory accounts process.
- Ownership of any audit and management of issues and process.
- Managing tax (external or internally provided advice).
General/ other
- System implementation.
- Supporting corporate Finance projects such as due diligence and acquisitions.
Skills and Qualifications required:
Fully qualified in ICAEW, CIMA or ACCA
Extensive experience as a Financial Controller
Practice or technology industry background is an advantage.
You will be a confident and outgoing personality with excellent communication skills
Confident with systems and analytics
Ability to travel to client sites as required
