This is an exciting opportunity for a Software Test Manager or Lead Software Test Engineer to join a company doing good things in healthcare software, based in Bristol. You will be joining a business with a strong development and quality ethos and, as the sole test resource, you will be responsible for driving the quality message as well as undertaking automated and manual testing yourself. This is a role which will almost certainly involve direct client contact.

The ideal applicant would have a combination of hand's on automation test development, a keen software development ability as well as the maturity, ambition and management style to drive best practice around testing and quality control with the support of developers (unit tests, continuous integration), the product specialist, and the product owner (ISO style clinical safety methodology). The test engineer will play a key role in driving further automation (JMeter, Selenium, BURP) and generally shaping the testing practices and ensuring quality is at the heart of the business.

Working as an integrated member of the team you will be interfacing with developers, product specialists, product owner and the business to ensure development work meets specifications and is delivered to the highest quality within the project timelines.

- Work collaboratively as an integrated member of the team
- Participate with the team in planning, reviews and post project lessons learned
- Provide test estimation input to the estimation meetings
- Understand business requirements and specifications/acceptance criteria and define test conditions
- Design acceptance tests, using in-depth technical analysis of both functional and non-functional specifications/acceptance criteria
- Define test techniques and coverage for testing of requirements.
- Execute, record and analyse test results, identify and report defects, issues and risks associated with own work
- Produce/update regression test packs to test new and amended software or services
- Identify areas for testing improvement, including automation with Selenium and work with the team to implement appropriate practices
- Oversee the design of 'smoke tests' for the deployment team
- Analyze customer reported defects post-shipping to review how changes to testing / development practices could avoid these

Engineering skills

- You will have at least 4 years software development experience.
- Willing and able to learn new technologies and new skills.
- A problem solver who loves technical challenges.
- An interest in bridging the gap between technology and business.
- Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle.
- Understands the importance of standards and quality procedures.
- Ideally experience of working with both waterfall and agile methodologies.
