We are a world leading engineering company specialising in the measurement, modelling and analysis of residual stresses in engineering components to understand and prevent their catastrophic failure. 

From our base in Bristol, we work with all engineering sectors worldwide and for engineering companies of all sizes, from FTSE 100s to start-ups, Universities, research institutes and Government agencies. To that end, we develop in-house hardware and software to carry out our testing, recording the raw data, analysing it and storing it all on internal and external servers for easy and secure access by all Stakeholders.

Team members are given the responsibility to manage the whole range of tasks within their project, from high level interactions with the client to lower level admin, and calling upon support from the multi-disciplinary team if/when needed.

The company has an immediate opening for an ambitious and motivated Junior-Mid Weight Full Stack PHP Developer to continue its investment in innovation. The post is a full-time, permanent position based out of our premises near Avon Meads Retail Park.

About the role:

The role involves taking leadership of all our software development aspects, working on back-end and front-end development, for our SaaS, web-based results database, in-house machine control, data-logging and analysis software, and website. Hence the role will involve working closely with our engineers to conceive and create responsive, powerful and reliable software for working self-contained within the host computer, interacting with externally connected devices or with devices and servers over the internet. You will be encouraged to actively research the latest technologies, trends and development techniques, with a view to guiding the company’s software development roadmap.

The work will be creative, interesting and challenging, and is a great opportunity for the right person to kindle a new department within a growing company. Your best ideas and enthusiasm will help to shape our future.

Skills / experience required:

+ PHP (5.x)
+ HTML5
+ CSS3 / SASS
+ jQuery / Javascript / Ajax
+ MySQL
+ Test-driven development
+ Git version control
+ A minimum of 2 years’ experience of professional software development with web applications.

Nice to have. Exposure to:

+ Drupal
+ Linux and Apache configuration
+ .Net

Characteristics required:

+ Passionate about creating great user experiences
+ Maintain a high awareness of industry issues and trends to implement technical, UX and UI best practices
+ Pedantic about creating methodical and clean, commented code
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain issues clearly and simply, to non-IT experts
+ Knowledgeable of the importance of performance optimisation.
+ Comfortable receiving user critique for the constant evolution of the software developed.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and effective at applying them in a technical environment.

Remuneration:

You will be required to work 35 hours per week, and will be offered a competitive salary and benefits package, in a light-hearted and flexible working environment. Salary will be dependent on experience, but in the range of £30-¬35k.
