My client is seeking a QA Automated Tester to join their already successful and growing business.

Working under the Head of Technical Facilities, and reporting to the Development Team Lead, the role will drive new methodologies for testing. They are seeking an individual who can work independently but contribute as a member of the team so that the product my client offers is of the best quality possible. They need a talented person that understands the importance of the Agile process, can work in either KANBAN or SCRUM, and be a core part of the culture of software development.

Role Objectives

  • Work using QA automation tools – ideally Selenium – to develop the test suite.
  • Build out functional and regression tests, smoke tests and further evolve the product through improving the test coverage.
  • Ensure all software development work is tested against acceptance tests and unit tests created by the development team.
  • Become a subject matter expert (SME) in the business areas where software is being used so this can inform both regression and functional testing.
  • Ensure all stories follow the correct AGILE process workflow through QA/UAT to done and are properly communicated with the project team and business owners.
  • Structuring activities in order to maximize effectiveness of one’s time.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, product managers and support engineers to correctly identify, prioritise and resolve issues. Prioritising, schedules tasks and stays focused.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven automated testing experience
  • Experience with C#, Javascript, RESTFul webservices
  • Knowledge of Selenium WebDriver, Gherkin e.g. Cucumber or SpecFlow, Page Object Model, CI Tools e.g. TeamCity
  • Experience using defect management systems and Agile tools such as JIRA.
  • Experience in deploying Cloud-based server technologies (AWS etc) with thin-client or browser-based testing.
  • Messaging and large data-sets.
  • Experience of managing several QA projects at the same time – at different stages in the software cycle – managing test scripts, test scenario planning etc at the same time across a few projects.
  • Experience of working in a team that delivers a high availability service.
  • BSC in computer science or other numerate degree with significant computing content.  Good HND can be considered too.

Additional Experience

Experience in the following areas would be a distinct advantage:

  • Knowledge of testing in Java, SQL, XML, PL/SQL environment will be essential.
  • Experience in build tools such as TeamCity, Octopus or Appveyor would be beneficial.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, manage own workload and meet project targets.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight (but realistic) deadlines when working on a project’s critical path.
