My client requires an experienced Technical Author to provide authoring services to all customers. You must have experience of producing technical manuals to a military standard.

This is a contract role with an end date of 31st May 2017. Security clearance is desirable.

Specific Requirements:           

The requirements for the post of Technical Author include the following:

  • Possession of a recognised technical writing/authorship qualification and/or have experience producing technical manuals to a military standard (i.e. JSP 180 Series, BS EN 82079-1:2012, AIA/ASD S1000D Etc.)  An understanding / good working knowledge of Def Stan 02-40 would be desirable.
  • Have a mechanical/electrical background, preferably in a military environment.
  • Be familiar with current MoD documentation procedures and technical publication procedures.
  • Ability to produce technical publications to meet the quality assurance requirements in accordance with BS EN 82079-1:2012 and JSP 180 Series as applicable.

Key Responsibilities:

The general day-to-day tasks of the Technical Author will be as follows:

  • Creation, production, update and amendment of technical manuals associated with all ILS contracts, as directed by LSM.
  • Produce draft material using technical data and information from engineering documents.
  • Liaison with Engineers and CAD Designers for checking accuracy and validation of material produced prior to submittal to the Technical Author Team Leader for edit.
  • Ensure final documentation is approved and certified before issue to customer.
  • Complete the dispatch process including: update of Distribution and Deliveries Register, completion of the Certificate of Conformity and Receipt Form, update CD Register and add IETP to Technical Publications reference on server.
  • Documentation support for Commercial Contracts.
  • Assist in all other general documentation tasks as directed by LSM in support of current ILS contracts.

General Requirements:

The general requirements of the Technical Author will be as follows:

  • Hold current Security Clearance (or willingness to undergo process).
  • Good communication, organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work cooperatively in a team is important.
  • Experienced in all MS Office applications including Visio, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, and able to demonstrate relevant skill base in production of Military compliant documentation.
  • Have knowledge of data recording, reporting and associated documentation.
