Quality Engineer

Salary:                                     £27,100 - £34,821 per annum, level dependent on experience

Reporting to the Quality Manager, as a Quality Engineer you’ll be responsible for supporting manufacturing process improvements and making a significant contribution to the strategic goal of continuous quality improvement to ensure customer satisfaction. Your responsibilities and duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Supporting the on-going maintenance of the site Quality Management System, and providing guidance in the development of procedures to drive improvement and AS9100 compliance
  • Supporting operations in achieving an environment of continuous improvement through identifying best practice and championing changes (working closely with Shop Engineers)
  • Supporting FRACAS reviews to ensure the system is administered correctly and that the required behaviours are adopted
  • Participating and contributing in New Product Introduction Process and understanding specification development and verification upon transition to production
  • Planning of product acceptance requirements, in-process, final inspection and FAI
  • Conducting product and process audits
  • Attending the various business/product reviews to ensure the business is addressing all aspects of the requirement to the satisfaction of the customer
  • Building effective working relationships internally and externally

To be considered for this Quality Engineer role you MUST have the following experience, qualifications, skills, and attributes:

  • Proven experience as a Quality Engineer within a manufacturing environment
  • A good standard of formal education (preferably HNC/D level or higher)
  • Knowledge / experience in AS9100/ISO9001 quality environment
  • Proven experience in mechanical or optical engineering
  • An understanding and practical experience of metrology (optical and/or mechanical)
  • Experience of the practical application of problem solving tools / techniques
  • IT literate with superb knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills, a methodical approach to working, and a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure to achieve demanding objectives

The following experience and knowledge is desirable, although not essential;

  • An extensive knowledge of Qioptiq products and processes, together with an understanding of Quality Management Systems
  • Familiarity with First Article Inspection (FAI) requirements, ideally AS9102
  • Familiarity with auditing techniques
  • Experience in lean practices
  • Quality engineering experience in a precision manufacturing environment

Contract type:                           Fixed term 18 month contract

Hours of work:                         36 hours per week. Monday to Thursday: 8.00am - 16.30pm, Friday: 8.00am -12.00pm
