The School of Science and Technology at NTU is one of the most innovative in the UK. We possess state of the art facilities in bioscience, chemistry, computing, physics, forensics, sport science and technology. We pride ourselves on our strong multi-disciplinary ethos and deliver excellent taught courses at undergraduate, MRes and MSc level. We engage in cutting edge research in bioscience, general engineering (including contributions from chemistry), computing and sport science, attracting substantial external funding to underpin our research programmes and PhD supervision.  We are committed to delivering outstanding teaching and world-leading research, that changes lives and society. If you are ambitious to shape the future, and contribute to our mission, come join our exciting team of enthusiastic staff and students.

The School of Science and Technology based on the Clifton Campus has been very successful in recent years and continues to invest in state of the art teaching and research infrastructure, equipment and staff.  To support this strategic investment we are developing a technical support team to help run and maintain the newly built Interdisciplinary Science and Technology  Engagement Centre (ISTEC). The Centre will house both teaching and research facilities covering Biosciences, Chemistry, Physics, Computing, Sports Science, Robotics and Assistive Technologies.

The successful applicant will lead a team of technicians dedicated to supporting the teaching and research facilities within ISTEC and will support the team's development as it potentially grows in the medium to long term according to demand.  This hands-on role will suit someone with advanced interdisciplinary technical skills from a practical based science subject to include Biosciences and Chemistry or Physics and with proven management skills and the ability to coordinate the work of others. Some Health & Safety management training will be an advantage and evidence of leadership skills is essential.

Duties will include: practical input into a specific technical discipline  matching the School's and individual's strengths; the co-ordination of technical support to other teaching/research/discipline areas using direct reports; working with the Technical Manager and other Technical Group Leaders to identify opportunities for the broader base of technicians to contribute to teaching and research projects and 3rd stream activity; and contribution to the overall leadership of the School's technical team as part of the Technical Group Leaders forum (TeGL).

You will possess an excellent standard of general education to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject and will have extensive laboratory work experience in a HE or similar environment.
