Our client is developing structure within the Technical department of their flagship site and as such, are inviting a Technical Manager to join their team to help to drive the future of that function for the business.

Description
The Technical Manager will be responsible for a department that ensures the company maintains and develops a strong technical base, in terms of products and equipment capability, whilst providing appropriate support to the sales and customers products /process needs.
Key responsibilities of the tole will be:
- To maintain and further develop strong technical / commercial relationships with raw material suppliers.
- To ensure that all new raw materials are fit for purpose and are commercially & technically sound and that Company and legal safety & hygiene aspects are met
- Investigate and report on new markets / products / equipment as directed by Managing Director / Sales Director
- Ensure that new materials and processes are introduced in a totally safe, efficient and timely manner through an agreed trialling protocol
- To liaise and agree specifications for raw materials with the Pre-production Department
- Produce and maintain up to date Sales/Pre-production/Production training material for substrates/materials and processes
- New Product Development and Research to maintain a key competitive lead in areas for the business linked to the Company Strategy
- Responsible for ensuring supplier Declarations of Compliance are correct and up-to-date and advising where uses may be restricted linked to this information
- Responsible for keeping up to date with food-contact legislation and informing Directors where relevant.
- Supply technical support for non-conformance and customer complaints as required
- Travel when required (incl. Europe) to support customer requirements, continued professional development, trials and complaints
- To undertake all Hygiene and Quality responsibilities to ensure that Company standards are met and surpassed
Profile
The successful Technical Candidate will have:
- A proven track record of implementing and developing systems within FMCG
- Experience in working with the key food retailers (ASDA, Tesco, M&S etc)
- A good understanding of manufacturing systems within food manufacturing
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience within a Technical/Quality role
- A Strategic and creative approach
- A highly commercial attitude with excellent negotiation skills
- An ability to "network" and communicate effectively at all levels
