Lead Engineer

My client, a leading automotive manufacturing business, are seeking to appoint a Lead Engineer working within Chassis and Powertrain Electrical Systems who is responsible for leading activities to design, develop and maintain chassis and powertrain electrical systems, ensuring compliance in global markets and the adoption of, or integration with relevant emerging systems and technologies to meet or exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities

- Lead and undertake whole-vehicle electrical activities on one or more projects, to deliver and validate key requirements with sign-off through a structured design review and approval process.
- Provide upfront development and testing of new designs wherever possible and support New Product Introduction at UK and international build sites.
- Provide technical expertise to lead innovative development, management and integration of systems including engine, hybrid, transmission, suspension, braking and power management. Ensuring value-add and cost effective delivery.
- Ensure common system designs, interfaces and principles are applied consistently across all vehicle platforms and territories. Promote the re-use of parts and modular design philosophies. Contribute to process and toolchain improvements to benefit the business.
- Interface directly with internal and external customers on technical issues and requirements. Ensuring high customer satisfaction through safe, reliable and well supported implementations.
- Prepare and present technical documentation and papers, generating designs and documents to the relevant quality and safety standards.
- Lead the definition of and compliance with relevant internal and international standards, best practice and legislation.
- Develop and maintain clear and intuitive system documentation packages to provide enhanced service and diagnostic capabilities.
- Arrange and co-ordinate activities with internal and external partners or suppliers to achieve quality, cost and delivery targets for each project.

- Engineering Degree or equivalent experience in relevant discipline.
- Successfully lead a team in the delivery of vehicle based projects.
- Active interest in vehicle based technologies and developments.
- Detailed understanding of vehicle electrical systems and controls.
- Good people management skills.
- Ability to work in a structured environment.
- Proven problem solving skills.
- The ability to communicate at all levels.
- Good team player.
- Able to work without supervision under own initiative.
