Finance Business Partner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Manager to join a leading financial services business in Edinburgh on a permanent basis.

Purpose:

The main purpose of this role is to act as the primary interface between Finance and the business; providing support, ensuring the preparation of reliable and timely financial plans to support business planning and providing financial analysis for business cases and ad hoc papers.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Providing detailed cost analysis with full understanding of cost drivers to support the business in driving efficiency and value for money
  • Quality and timely annual and five year cost plans (including stress scenario forecasts)
  • Monthly forecasts to facilitate and drive the understanding of the cost base and to assist cost centres and the project in delivery of their plans.
  • Acting as primary financial support for Programme and IT cost functions. Individual will be responsible for building constructive, challenging relationships with business teams, providing financial support and challenge on current and future business performance.
  • Working with Programme and IT cost functions to help them build and complete budget submissions. Challenge assumptions to deliver a realistic, balanced budget to senior management. Provide monthly desktop forecasts as required.
  • Using new and existing models provide the financial tools/information to assist in decision-making. Ensuring models are accurate, up-to-date, and maintained in line with model management framework and policies.
  • Responsibility for reviewing and providing challenge. This involves regular monthly cost reporting, competitor benchmarking (if appropriate) and VFM measurement
  • Reviewing all investment recommendations/business cases to ensure consistency, realism and stress testing of assumptions.

Desired Experience:

The successful candidate will possess or be working towards a professional accounting qualification along with experience working within a decision support/Business Intelligence/business partnering environment within financial services/banking.

  • Financial planning & management accounting
  • Previous experience of challenging colleagues in a collaborative and constructive manner, having the courage to pose questions to ensure the right fact based decisions are always made
  • Proven relationship manager across teams and in a Matrix management organisation
  • Project management skills in complex multi-functional projects
  • Proven ability to influence at a Senior Management and Executive level
  • Strong awareness of the control environment within a financial services organisation
  • Understanding of conduct risk, specifically the delivery of fair customer outcomes
  • Excellent analytical rigour, attention to detail and superior written skills
