An opportunity exists within the Hybrid and Electronic System Team for a Chief Engineer - Energy Storage Systems to lead and deliver on-going client technology projects and to lead and develop the battery systems team.

Job Duties:

To run the energy storage systems technical team and deliver client projects:

- Provide line-management leadership to a specialist team of energy storage (incl. battery, fuel cell, super-capacitor) engineers
- Provide technical leadership for engineers involved in energy storage
- Interface directly with clients on technical issues
- Focus on delivery of projects on-time and on-budget
- Technical guidance for the design, development and validation of high voltage (>60V) energy storage systems
- Technical negotiations with clients and support of commercial discussions
- Support of the sales teams in the development of market opportunities through client interaction, proposal support and roadmap development
- Promotion of capability throughout the global customer base

Required Qualifications and Experience:

The successful applicant will have a sound engineering background, a number of years of experience of successfully delivering projects in an engineering / consultancy environment having lead teams of engineers with a focus on production energy storage systems.

Minimum degree in an Engineering or Science related discipline (e.g. electrical and electronic engineering, physics, maths)

- Good understanding of battery cell chemistries
- Good grounding in wider energy storage mediums
- Excellent knowledge of energy storage system architectures and management systems
- Experience in team leadership, business growth and strategy development
- Experience of designing (12 to 1200 Vdc) power systems, (connectors, bus bars, cables, contactors & fusing)
- Experienced with product delivery process
- Excellent project leadership, interpersonal and customer facing skills
- Ability to plan and deliver projects within budget and within the scoped time
- Proactive, self-motivated, and attention to detail
- Ability to train junior engineers and develop a team, good interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to be flexible on work location and prepared to travel within the UK and internationally on short assignments

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

It would be beneficial, but not essential if the applicant had some experience or knowledge in the following fields:

- Experience in of energy storage management systems for HEV systems
- Analytical approach to developing controls algorithms in an automotive environment
- Experience in a model-based development languages such - Matlab / Simulink
- Familiar with laboratory & field development & test equipment
- Experience of battery charger systems
- Experienced in DFMEA for Electrical Systems
- Hands on experience of working live with HV systems (>50V)
