Job Title : Mechanical Designer (Homelifts)
Location : Andover
Salary : GBP30,000 - GBP35,000 per annum
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Mechanical Designer to join a family run, market leading business in the Lift industry.
The ideal candidate will be designing and developing new products and product improvements by providing a high level of mechanical based design skill and knowledge into product development projects. Balancing innovative engineering design, functional requirements and aesthetic appeal with product safety, cost effective design and ease of manufacture and installation
Responsibilities: Product Design
- Design and develop new products and product improvements, balancing innovative engineering design, functional requirements and aesthetic appeal with product safety, cost effective design and ease of manufacture and installation
- Work in compliance with the Engineering Design Rules, Product Development Vision and Product Development Process
- Ensure that development work adheres to the requirements of project design briefs and other documentation
- Play an active role in projects, teams, meetings etc. Liaise with other cross-functional team members, suppliers and other interested parties throughout projects, and encourage their involvement and participation
- Lead design reviews. Communicate ideas and solution. Influence decisions, problem solving
- Validate and document that design solutions are robust and reliable by using relevant tools and techniques such as computerised modelling, prototyping, FMEA, FEA, life testing, load testing etc. Evaluate test outcomes and act as required
- Ensure the technical files are created and maintained/updated as new products are designed, or existing products are changed
- Have a detailed and through understanding of our own products, and proactively seek to learn about competitor's products

- Work in accordance with company's policies and procedures
- Health & safety policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work, in order that you protect yourself and others from any risk of harm
- Product Safety Policy, Engineering Design Rules and other procedures relating to Product Safety
Person Specification:
- Holds relevant Mechanical design degree or other equivalent academic qualifications
- Has experience of electrical product design
- Has an excellent understanding of engineering best practice, and experience designing for manufacture and installation
- Has experience working in the lift industry, and/or designing products used in the construction industry
- Has knowledge of product design standards, such as EN81 -20, 41, BS5900
- Is proficient at researching materials, processes and market requirements
- Able to communicate initial design ideas using a variety of methods
- Able to implement life and load tests, evaluate test outcomes and initiate actions
- Has a creative mind and ability to innovate
- Has a high level of tenacity and drive
- Has excellent problem solving abilities and use of problem solving tools and techniques
- Has excellent organisational skills and is highly task focused and able to prioritise, whilst also able to be flexible
- Is a good communicator, and has interpersonal and relationship forming skills, and able to communicate effectively and interact at all levels of the business
- Has excellent attention to detail
- Is proficient in the use of day to day software packages (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Email and Internet)
- Proficient and experienced in the use of modern CAD software, preferably Inventor
