Our client is a private company funded by the NHS to provide care to children and adults who are living with complex health needs in the community. This includes children who are supported by a tracheostomy, oxygen therapy or ventilator as well as children with complex seizure management needs.

The Purpose of the Role

A new exciting opportunity has been created for a professional, caring and compassionate children’s nurse to join our organisation to provide clinical support and advice to our customers and staff.

So what does that mean to you?

Reporting to the Head of Complex Care Service the individual will work collaboratively with the management team to ensure a safe and consistent service for our customers across the South Yorkshire area. You will be involved from the initial referral stage supporting the field based management team to develop the care plan. You will give clinical support and advice to the team ensuring that the service works within appropriate guidelines and operates safely to meet customer’s outcomes. You will be responsible for identifying and sourcing appropriate training for our Support Workers and measure and monitor their competency.

This service is fast paced ever changing and at times can be challenging, however supporting individuals to live within the community, maintaining their wellbeing and leading full lives is very rewarding. The role of Children’s Nurse within this service is key.

The Role

  • Champion independence and respect personal choice working within the team to develop and review outcome based care plans.
  • Support individuals and their families through the commencement and delivery of the service.
  • Sourcing and where appropriate providing training and support to our team of Support Workers.
  • Monitor Support Worker competency working collaboratively with the Field Based Management team in providing supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and best practice guidelines.
  • To take a holistic approach to working in partnership with other professionals across health, education and social services to enable the individual to enjoy positive and proactive experience of being supported at home.
  • To build and develop lasting relationships with colleagues and commissioners of service from the CCG, the Trust and Social Services.
  • Provide clinical support and advice to the Head of Complex Care and the management team.

Essential Requirements

We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and professional Children’s Nurse who has a minimum of 2 years’ experience. We are looking at appointing at Band 6. It would be ideal if the individual had experience of tracheostomy and ventilators although this is not essential. The post holder must feel confident in their ability to assess Support Worker competency and to develop staff knowledge, skill and understanding.

The post holder must be willing to research, learn and advise on any unfamiliar health conditions. They must also be willing to attend training that will develop their knowledge which can then be shared.
