My local authority client are looking for a seasoned Principle Planning Officer with experience of dealing with large major planning applications, and in representing councils in public inquiries regarding planning appeals.
You will be working Monday - Friday 09.00-17.00 from as soon as possibleuntil March 3rd 2017, paying GBP30.38 per hour.
You are required to assist the team leaders in their delivery of development management services, and dealing with applications relating to the control of development.
To be considered for the role you MUST have membership of RTPI (be a chartered town planner) and have a Degree in Town and Country Planning (or related subject).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Handling all types of application, specifically major and more controversial proposals
- Assisting and deputising for the Team Leader Major Growth where appropriate
- Preparing planning appeal evidence and appearing as an expert witness for the client at Public Inquiries, Informal Hearings, and preparing statements for Written Representation appeals
- Appearing as a witness for the client in the Magistrates and Crown Court as required
- Providing pre-application advice on complex and/or major development proposals, including acting as lead officer co-coordinating the views of all relevant parties, and responding to general enquiries
- Advising other members of the teams on difficult issues with which they are involved
- Liaising with and assisting with the planning enforcement unit in the conduct of investigations and preparation of cases for enforcement action
- Liaising with Senior Officers of other departments regarding development possibilities
- Assisting the Head of Planning and Regeneration in the management of complex and challenging assignments
- Promoting the personal development of team members by providing supervision, guidance and assistance as necessary and identifying their training and development needs
- Contributing to the continuous improvement in the delivery of customer satisfaction
To be successful you must -
- Have experience in a similar role
- Have a degree in Town and Country Planning or similar
- Have membership of RTPI
- Have considerable recent experience of development management, dealing with more complex planning applications and appeals
- Be able to analyse complex planning issues and write letters, reports and evidence
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of current law and guidance relating to development management
- Be confident with IT and softwares
- Have experience of specialist planning software
- Be able to communicate efficiently and effectively
- Be able to travel around the area as required for the role
