Solution Engineering Manager - Smart Energy

Gas Distribution Networks Southampton, Hampshire GBP50,000 - GBP70,000

We are seeking a Solutions Engineering Manager to work with a high-tech start-up based in Southampton, Hampshire.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience with the energy industry (ideally gas distribution networks) and be involved in the planning and operational deployment of pressure management solutions. The role will involve travel to UK and US sites.

About the Role

Priorities:

  • Building relationship with a small number of key customers mainly in the UK to secure their engagement for early trial of the system
  • Researching governor types and other equipment likely to be used for UK trials and providing details to engineering team to enable adaptation work to be carried out in a timely
  • Working with development team to support lab testing of the system during development and provide independent validation of the development deliverables
  • Planning and preparation for the first field trials In the second 12 months, priority will be:
  • Running the pre-commercial field trials
  • Pre-sales
  • Developing the Solution Delivery function towards commercial launch

About you

Qualified to degree level in a relevant engineering or related discipline.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of successfully delivering engineering solutions within the energy industry, ideally within the Gas Transmission/distribution field.

The following competencies and qualities are highly desirable:

  • Knowledge of gas pressure management technology, operational practices and associated systems, organisation and business processes
  • Good understanding of IT, software and hardware
  • Professional image and stature, with strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships at all levels
  • Technically competent with a hands on approach and able to communicate technical issues to non-specialists
  • Strong customer facing experience, with good listening and analytic skills, able to understand and define customer requirements, and identify issues which are critical
  • First class team player, able to operate closely with sales, R&D and manufacturing/supply chain functions
  • Disciplined, well organised, with strong planning and project management skills - effective delegator, but with the flexibility to "roll up sleeves" when required
  • Quick to identify key issues and priorities, spot opportunities and risk, resolve problems and make practical and balanced decisions; an eye for detail and an intuitive nose for problems
  • Commercial awareness and business acumen
  • Mobile and willing to travel
