The Children's Society has more than 90 shops across the country, with our staff and over 2000 volunteers helping to raise more than GBP8million last year, which goes towards transforming the lives of vulnerable children and young people. This key role works in our Salisbury Shop, handling the day to day running of the shop, as well as managing volunteers.

We are looking for a dedicated Assistant Manager to assist the Shop Manager in maximising sales and to run the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager. A key part of this will be your ability to assist the Shop Manager in the setting of sales and expenditure targets and ensure plans are in place to achieve them.

Your key tasks will include management of stock, and assisting in the recruitment, training and retention of shop volunteers. You will be helping in the planning and implementation of internal and external sales promotion as requested by the Shop Manager.

KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

In order to be successful in this role, you must have experience in customer services.
You must have a track record of strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise a team of volunteers. You must also have GCSE English and maths or equivalent and a basic understanding of the retail environment and of working with volunteers. Your experience should also include cash handling if possible.

The Children's Society fights child poverty and tackles neglect head on. With the help of our dedicated staff, and committed volunteers, we continue to change the stories of this country's most disadvantaged children, and have been doing so for over a century. Our teams work hand in hand with children to help them to directly change their own stories. Together we are a driving force locally and nationally for children where it matters most, on the frontline and through our campaigning for change, to give every child the greatest possible chance in life.

Closing date: Tuesday: 29th January 2017.
