Without C grades at GCSE in English and maths it's difficult to progress in life. Our volunteering scheme helps students who haven't performed well at school in their English and maths GCSE's and are less able to access expensive support like private tutoring.

We have exciting volunteering opportunities that support young people, many facing socio-economic disadvantage to achieve a meaningful level of academic attainment.

This enables them to go on to higher education, employment or further training. We are looking for highly committed volunteers to support our GCSE and Functional Skills students to increase their subject knowledge, whilst building on confidence and study skills.

Apply to be a volunteer here today and we will place you with an English or maths tutor in one of our college curriculum areas. You will work with small groups of students during the normal college day (09:00 - 17:00). Sessions are delivered on the college's premises across our 9 sites and volunteers can be placed, where possible, to suit their location preference.

We provide all of our volunteers with training and resources, and we will also process a free Enhanced DBS check for you.

We're looking for people who are interested in education and want to make a difference to a young person's future prospects. Enthusiasm for the subject you're tutoring (English or maths) is crucial and we usually look for volunteers with at least a Level 2 qualification in the subject they will be supporting.

Experience working with young people is helpful but not essential. All volunteers must be willing to undergo a DBS check.

What will I get out of it?

Volunteering at Kirklees College is a great way to make a difference to the local community, make use of your qualifications and meet new people. It's also an opportunity to experience a different working environment and develop your skills.

If you're interested in changing careers or trying something different this could be for you!

It's also a fantastic chance to get experience of working in an FE college and we are happy to provide references on completion of the programme.

If you have supplied an e-mail address, should you be shortlisted for interview, we will contact you via your e-mail address. Please ensure that you check your 'Spam' or 'Junk' mailboxes, as sometimes emails can be diverted to these folders.

If you have any queries about this post please e-mail or telephone ext. .

Kirklees College is committed to Equality & Diversity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
