We are looking for the right person to lead and expand our fundraising activities and also oversee our Corporate Communication function. Through grants, statutory funding, corporate support, major donors, individual and community giving, you will make sure we are able help even more vulnerable young people have the stability, support, opportunities and relationships they need to succeed in life.

This is a great role for someone with substantial fundraising experience and a good understanding of corporate communication, who enjoys leading a team and the buzz of winning new funding.

The main function of the Fundraising and Communication Manager is to support the development and implementation of our fundraising strategy. You will play a key role leading all fundraising activity, working closely alongside the Partnership Director to make sure fundraising activity is effective in meeting our organisational priorities.

Alongside maintaining our strong track record in securing statutory funding and large grants, you will lead in securing new funding from Trusts, corporate relationships, major donors and the community.

You will focus on bringing in new sources of income generation, identifying new ways for us to raise money to meet the needs of young people and take us to the next stage in our charity's development.

You will also manage our organisational communication on a day-to-day basis assisted by our Funding and Communication Officer. Your team also includes an experienced Senior Funding Officer and several volunteers.

You'll be the first point of call for our current corporate accounts and you'll be actively pursuing new relationships.

You will oversee efforts to attract major donors and be on the look out for potential links with high net worth individuals who might be a good fit for our organisation.

You will oversee the Fundraising Team's agreed targets and ensure the team keeps things on track, using databases and software (e.g. Etapestry, Grantfinder) to regularly report to the Senior Management Team.

Events and volunteers play a big part in engaging our sponsors, donors and supporters so you must have strong event management skills.

It's not just about money, our fundraising activity has to be respectful, appropriate and considerate to our work with young people, always promoting them in a positive light. We don't do sad stories or guilt ridden appeals - we want people to engage with us because it makes them feel good about the positive work we do.

  About you

You have proven experience of writing successful bids, applications, pitches and proposals for funding. You are also able to develop and maintain excellent relationships with businesses at all levels.

You enjoy leading a team of staff and volunteers and have experience of developing and supporting people to be motivated and successful in fundraising.

You have a demonstrable understanding of the Corporate Communication function and dealing with the press. This may have been gained in a previous role or working closely alongside a Corporate Comms Team or external PR/Comms agencies.

You have great negotiation skills, are diplomatic and can comfortably deal with people from all walks of life and community standing. You're just as happy talking to the Lord Mayor, a CEO of a large corporate, a volunteer or a young person and you can see a positive opportunity in every situation; then turn that into a tangible benefit to young people and the organisation. You're not a ruthless money-grabber though, more of a conscientious opportunist!
