Role Description:

This new management role is to create, develop and grow a new product and embedded systems engineering team based at company’s headquarters in Sedgefield. The role is based in Sedgefield, but will require extensive travel and communications with teams in Huddersfield, Pennsylvania and California. This team would have responsibility for taking proven design concepts
through all product development stages to final release for manufacture. They would also have responsibility for the preparation of test procedures for manufacture and undertaking all qualification testing as well as product and design documentation.

The skill set of the team would need to include:

Electronics Design, including FPGA design
Embedded Design, including both hardware design and firmware development
Test Engineering
Product Characterisation testing
Compliance Testing
The team would take the proven technology demonstrators from technology teams, produce a fully tested, qualified and documented product design and then pass this on to the Manufacturing team within the company (or outside manufacturer).

Summary:

You will lead an engineering team working on a range of radiation based instrument designs with particular focus on embedded system design and integration of new products. The team will work with other engineering teams in the business which focuses on radiation detection technologies.

You will be:

An experienced electronics engineer with a broad knowledge of electronic instrumentation design and integration
A manager with proven experience of technical team management
Experienced in the full product development cycle
Able to find creative solutions to a wide range of technical challenges
Able to make and enact decisions with established engineering teams while also being open to new ways of working.

Essential skills and experience:

Experience of the leadership of technical teams with the ability lead decisively while giving team members freedom to work effectively
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and also with customers and to inspire confidence
Very sound knowledge of a wide range of electronics topics, particularly focussed on embedded instrumentation
Must include front end signal processing; signal acquisition; embedded processor design including simple microcontrollers, ARM based processors and applications processors; a range of communications protocols including RF comms; system status monitoring and control algorithms Recent experience of firmware development for microcontroller based and also embedded OS solutions
Experience of FPGA design including HDL coding. A hands-on approach to technical management Able to discuss designs and firmware with the team in detail and demonstrate best engineering practise
Experience of new product introduction of electronic products.
