Acas provides accurate, impartial advice on employment rights and employment relations issues to individuals, employers, their representatives and other interested parties. As well as providing advice, we work with callers to facilitate the early resolution of disputes and promote the business benefits of good employment relations.

Background:

You will work as part of a team. Duties could include:

  • Providing advice and information on employment rights and legislation to callers over the telephone
  • Promoting the benefits of early dispute resolution
  • Gathering information from customers wishing to use Early Conciliation
  • Referring callers to other Acas services
  • Answering written enquiries

Essential Criteria:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • The ability to absorb and understand large amounts of complex information
  • The ability to explain complex issues in a clear and straightforward way to a diverse range of customers
  • Willingness to work flexibly and co-operatively to ensure adequate staffing of the Helpline in line with customer demand
  • The ability to work at pace and to adapt successfully to a changing environment

Desirable Criteria:

  • Two years’ experience working in a contact centre or employment relations setting

The Acas Helpline serves all sections of the community and we welcome applications from individuals with language skills in addition to English.

We provide full training on employment legislation - some of this training is residential, particularly within the first six months.
