Purpose & Objectives of the Role
Responsible for the oversight and control of the Controls team;
To maintain an effective oversight to the Controls for the business;
To ensure accurate & timely reporting of Risk Events affecting Operations;
To overview the completion of actions as a result of Risk Events, Compliance findings and Audit findings;
Additionally, the role holder will support in Control & Business Change
in the development of new processes and controls
Providing process expertise to support change

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Provide leadership and give strategic direction to the Control team function
Resolve complex problems using innovative solutions
Identify root cause of incidents and exceptions and liaise with Operational Risk
Perform thematic root cause analysis to identify trends and facilitate targeted remediation
Work cross organisationally so as to influence positive outcomes for conflicting and competing agenda across multiple stakeholders with different Exco reporting lines
Prioritise resources and allocate work appropriately using negotiation where necessary
Escalate issues effectively and follow up with remediation and action plans
Analyse current control processes and develop strategic plans for improvement
Oversee existing daily, weekly and monthly control processes
Investigate exceptions and perform root cause analysis and implement solutions
Lead the remediation and improvement activities
Prepare detailed management information on controls status and action plans
Implement new management information where required
Implement new operational control processes where required
Build and maintain close relationships across the entire organisation
Develop expert knowledge of the organisation's business model, processes and procedures
Be the main point of contact for matters relating to operational controls
Other duties, tasks and projects as required
Assisting in the monthly operational governance process, and produce output suitable for inclusion in the monthly reporting pack
Works with the business heads within operations to include Continuous Improvement and Innovation, Business Process Improvement and ensure technology alignment

Qualifications/Skills/Experience

Required:

Experience managing a team, prioritising resources, allocating work and providing leadership
In depth specialist knowledge of the use of controls to manage risk
Strategic thinker who can analyse a situation, provide solutions and implement new initiatives
Ability to work independently and implement new ideas from inception to production
Resolve complex problems by "thinking outside the box" rather than using existing practices
Ability to operate cross functionally throughout the organisation with multiple stakeholders
Results and delivery focused
Demonstrate the ability to challenge existing processes
Extensive knowledge of operational processes
Skilled knowledge of Excel and Powerpoint
Ability to manage and meet deadlines
Excellent communication skills

Preferred:
Knowledge of key FCA regulations
Insurance and/or Financial Service background, preferred
