JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:

VISITING MUSIC TEACHER – Singing

King Edward’s School, founded in 1552, is an Independent Co-educational Day School; there are currently 700 pupils in the Senior School (including 219 pupils in the Sixth Form), 183 in the Junior School and 100 in the Pre-Prep. There are currently over 500 instrumental and vocal lessons delivered per week.

The School is wonderfully situated on a 14 acre site on the south eastern edge of Bath, just below the University, with fine views of the City Centre and surrounding hills.  In addition, there are attractive playing fields one mile from the school at Bathampton.

Job Requirement:

An experienced, enthusiastic, committed and inspiring classically trained teacher is required to teach Singing to individual pupils and possibly also some pairs of pupils (of a similar standard). Experience of preparing students for ABRSM exams (Grades 1–8+) is essential and familiarity of other examining boards’ syllabuses would be beneficial. There is the opportunity to take part in the Extra-Curricular life of the School for example running the Lower School Choir (KES Voices)

Remuneration:

Pupil Lessons:  £30.19 per hour including an element of 13.5% in respect of paid holiday entitlement.  A cost of living increase will be applied each September at the percentage increase applied to main teaching salary pay scales.

Ensemble Teaching: This will be paid at the current teaching Scale KES 7 £39,902 pro rata. The teaching rate is in recognition of your wider contribution to the School including participation in occasional concerts and events.

Please note that your pro rata holiday entitlement is included in these rates as for all other Teaching staff.

Overtime Payments:  Other work undertaken at the request of the Director of Music will be paid at the hourly, pupil-lesson rate.

Payment basis:

Salaries are paid over twelve months on a monthly basis in arrears, along with relevant National Insurance and Tax deductions.

Pension Contributions:

The post-holder is required to be a member of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme with current contributions from the Employee of 7.4% of salary and from the employer of 16.48%.

Hours of Work:  

Precise hours are not yet known for this post, although it is anticipated that the post holder will currently have approximately 5 hours per week of Singing teaching. The teaching days will be open to discussion, depending on the availability of the teacher and also availability of teaching rooms. The number of lessons offered to pupils will be based on 33 lessons per annum per pupil with an average of 30 minutes per lesson.  The School holds a great desire to support the growth in the take up of this important discipline.
