Part of the provision we offer supports the delivery of education and training to children and young people in custody, equipping them with key skills and giving them the opportunity to change.

At HMYOI Deerbolt, we are recruiting for two or more Functional Skills Maths Tutors to develop, plan and deliver high quality, engaging, learner focused education. Your delivery will meet contractual requirements and standards in line with the Functional Skills specifications, policies and procedures. We have one full time role (37 hours) and one part time role (29.6 hours) available, however we will also consider splitting the hours down into a part-time roles or job shares for the right candidates.

At HMYOI Deerbolt we provide high quality learning & skills to 18 - 21 year old male young offenders. We offer a broad and varied curriculum ranging from construction skills to enterprise to horticulture to Industrial Cleaning. At the heart of all learning is English, maths and IT which all learners can access. Delivery for Functional Skills often takes place in the workplace, ensuring learning is contextualised, relevant and engaging. Our tutors use a variety of innovative and creative teaching practises, taking into account the individual differences of the young people we work with, to motivate our learners and maximise their potential to progress and achieve.

To be successful in this role you`ll have a track record of teaching to a good or outstanding standard and hold a teaching qualification along with a UCPD Teaching Mathematics (Numeracy) in Education and Training, or equivalent Level 5 subject specialism. As you`ll be working with a range of abilities, you`ll be very flexible and adaptable, and be able to think creatively to ensure lessons are engaging and relatable. You`ll also be non-judgmental, committed, forward thinking, and have the ability to challenge effectively. Additionally, you`ll gain/hold and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
