Refresh your career. Revolutionise retail.

Argos is shaking things up. We're going digital in a big way and giving our customers more of what they want, when they want it.

Argos is currently undertaking a transformation programme to turn the business into a "Digital Retail Leader". This strategy has four major pillars including:

Reposition channels for Digital future (increase investment in web and mobile, reduce reliance on catalogue, improve experience in stores);
More choice available faster (improve home delivery options, offer increased rapid order-in to store, extend overall ranges);
Universal customer appeal (improve overall product ranging, ensure good value for money on key items, develop further unique own brand products);
Operating a lean and flexible cost base.

To support this strategy, we are looking to building the scale of our Commercial Development team which currently looks after: pricing, promotions, category development and ranging.

Your key focus areas will be:

Working directly alongside the Strategic Development Manager you will be developing promotional strategies that will have a significant impact upon the future of our business.
Using a bespoke promotional model which will be the basis for capturing and evaluating all Argos promotional activity you will lead the development of promotional strategy and target setting across the breadth of the whole business generating ~GBP4.5bn in sales.
As a result of forensic detail available on promotional performance you will be able to clearly identify where promotional investment funds can be redeployed from underperforming promotional activity to support out performers.
There will be significant senior executive exposure from the start, working immediately with Trading Directors on a multi-million GBP project of major strategic importance. You will back up your strong technical skills with an appetite to challenge and investigate, be inquisitive and apply commercial analysis to complex business issues. You'll be able to spot business opportunities and communicate innovative solutions to them in such a way that is both compelling and powerful.

We are looking for individuals who can think 'out of the box' as you will look for 80/20 solutions and use back of the envelope calculations to further understand the problem. Creativity is also essential in ensuring that business models and assumptions are continually reviewed both for content and the speed and efficiency with which they are produced. In addition existing methods need to be questioned and reviewed, at the coalface, to ensure that what was the most appropriate approach has not subsequently been superseded.

As a Senior Development Analyst your main responsibilities will be to:

Provide analytical and consultancy insight in setting promotional targets and plotting the strategic direction to deliver these targets in line with broader category and business objectives
Lead category deep dives on promo performance to get to the root cause of the issue and present clear and compelling solutions back to the commercial leadership team.
Review and analyse wider market pricing information in order to provide commercial and financial support at both a strategic and tactical level. This includes sourcing relevant data (internal & external), conducting complex analytics, critically analysing information and utilising logical thought to present insights and key impacts on the business
Work cross-functionally, successfully influencing stakeholders at all levels across the business, ensuring promotional/pricing principles and recommendations are executed throughout the trading community.
Successfully manage multiple work streams/priorities at any given time and work independently or under direction of Commercial Development Leadership to deliver project briefs

As a Senior Development Analyst your skills & experience will ideally include:

Of graduate calibre with demonstrable experience of delivering results either in strategy consulting or in a strategy/business development role within retail or FMCG.
Highly numerate, with proven ability to manipulate and analyse data to deliver clear and actionable commercial insights.
Able to communicate complex issues to the businesses management teams and influence their thinking with regard to key business decisions.
Self-starter with strong project management skills, able to plan and co-ordinate multifunctional deliverables plus a proven record of meeting tight/challenging deadlines.
Retail awareness and ability to demonstrate an understanding of and have a passion for retail.

What you'll get in return:

At Argos, as well as the usual company benefits, which include, 24 days holiday, save as you earn scheme, private healthcare, discretionary annual bonus, company pension scheme, you will work in an exciting environment, with the potential to develop your skills for a career that fits with your own aspirations.
