The Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care oversees statutory bodies that regulate health and social care professionals in the UK. The Authority assesses their performance, conducts audits, and scrutinises their decisions. It also sets standards for organisations holding voluntary registers for health and social care occupations and accredits those that meet them.

The Authority’s main aim is to promote the health, safety and well-being of users of health and social care services and the public. It is committed to being impartial, fair, accessible and consistent in the application of its values.

The Authority is seeking a board member, based in Wales and appointed by Welsh Ministers, who will play a key part in the effective and successful governance of the Authority and help it build and retain public and professional confidence in the regulation of Health professionals.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate high standards of corporate and personal conduct including impartiality, integrity and objectivity in the execution of the role and responsibilities. Ideally they will bring experience in health, social care, local government or regulation with a demonstrable Welsh perspective. The Authority will look for a strong track record of operating strategically at Board level, and experience of addressing high profile, complex issues and balancing sensitive professional considerations with wider public interest. Candidates must have outstanding interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, and a commitment to public service and the protection of patients and the public.
