Role

This is a unique opportunity for a talented, innovative mechanical design engineer to lead the component design, analysis and production engineering of customer design and internal manufacturing projects.

The Company

My client is a supplier of fibre reinforced aluminium components for automotive, aerospace and many other industrial sectors. Aluminium matrix composite (AMC) materials have remarkable mechanical properties, combining the strength and stiffness of steel with the weight of aluminium. With patented manufacturing technology, is now in a strong position to exploit escalating customer demand for lightweight, high performance components. The Company now wishes to increase its design & manufacturing expertise due to the increasing volume of enquires and longer term funded projects.

Job Overview

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day product design tasks using Siemens NX10 software. They will also be responsible for producing high standard detail design drawings and parametric models, following best practice guidelines at all times. The applicant will be required to have an understand of materials and carry out simple FEA analysis using ANSYS. Training will given in these areas if required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

*Providing support to external & internal company projects as required in the form of design (CAD) and analysis (FEA) services and studies.
Undertaking feasibility studies into the design and specification of new AMC components and inserts for specific applications.
*Creation of robust and versatile models to demonstrate concepts; both in solids and surfaces, with engineering drawings to complement design release
*Creation and validation of novel engineering design solutions supported by right first time principals and analysis work to meet demanding performance and cost targets.
*Working in collaborative projects to develop a full, coherent suite of CAE tools to enable the specification and representation of AMC materials containing differing preform structures.
*Preparing and delivering technical presentations and papers, as required.
*Supporting and interfacing with commercial and technical management and manufacturing staff.
*Planning, scheduling and coordinating work projects.
*Gathering customers' technical requirements and devising solutions for problems. Providing CAD and CAE consultancy support services for customers, as required.
Ensuring customer satisfaction and facilitating the placement of follow-on contracts.

Education, Experience and Skill Requirements

*Minimum of 5 years' experience of applications engineering; component design, analysis, or development.
*University degree in mechanical engineering, materials science or other engineering discipline.
*Experience in one or more of the automotive, aerospace, defence, energy and industrial sectors.
*Experience of both computer-aided design and finite element analysis proprietary software packages.
*Knowledge of composite materials and casting processes.
*Comfortable working under pressure in cross-functional teams to project deadlines.
*Strong verbal and written communications, together with excellent reporting skills.
*Self-motivated and organized individual with the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
*Flexible, adaptable, and enthusiastic team player.
