Purpose of the Job
The job holder will seek to develop best in-class technologies in the relevant coating fields, via literature/patent search,
in house research and development. A very high focus will be needed to select path forward that could represent
intellectual property for the company needed to defend the commercial value of the market place. Benchmarking our
own technology vs. existing competitive technologies to position ourselves as best in class.
Key Accountabilities / Measures of the job Key Performance Indicators
1 Safety Commitment - Ensuring the Safety of Self and Others
2 Assist in the development and support of technology for the Functional Coatings business.
3 Coordinate Polymer technology with coatings formulation ensuring a better understanding of the principles underpinning the key properties and communicating this knowledge to relevant colleagues
within the FC group. A very high focus will be needed to select path forward that should represent intellectual property for the company
4 Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the latest competitor prior art related to the FC business.

Specific -Can be Materials, Polymer or Formulation Science
Product Development and Formulation
Description - Contribute to the development of, or personally develop, specific products to meet business requirements.
Specific - Gas and other barrier coatings for food packaging applied from flexographic, gravure or similar converting equipment
Technical Applications
Description - Technical skills and ability to resolve problems across the specific product or application area, including e.g. an understanding of raw materials / ink
chemistry / printing applications / technologies etc
Specific - Depends on specific discipline -Polymer= structure property relationships; Materials= Additives their physical and chemical interactions in formulations;
Formulation= Understanding of specific formulation principles to meet the requirements of converting equipment pre and post packaging within cost constraints
Project Management
Description - Undertake specific projects, using appropriate tools where required, in order to improve efficiency, reduce cost, introduce a concept or make other notable
changes
Specific - Use of GPM*; VOC reporting; Identification of potential IP opportunities and conflicts; Personal training records for lab equipment
Ensuring Maintenance of Equipment
Monitoring and improving existing equipment to ensure it meets guidelines and is fit for purpose
Qualifications / Experience Critical for the job Holder
Honours degree, preferably PhD Chemistry-Polymers, analytical chemistry, formulation
Experience in a similar role (surface coatings related, preferably food packaging inks or coatings)
