A new opportunity has been created with this forward thinking renewable energy company. To support one of their key business interests in Anaerobic Digestion (AD) development they are now searching for an up and coming Technical Manager to ensure gas yields and energy production is maximised.

Role

As an integral member of the commercial team your key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Work within the commercial team as the technical expert to determine the quality, gas yield and optimum recipe of solid waste and liquid waste feedstocks and to input on pricing structures;
  • Working closely with operational site teams to optimise the biology/gas yield to generate maximum electrical output;
  • Manage the testing of solid waste and liquid waste feedstocks and standardise, drive efficiencies, reduce costs and increase the turnaround time of the feedstock testing process;
  • Undertake audits of solid and liquid waste customers and suppliers to monitor and optimise feedstock quality and work with commercial and operational management to take corrective action on poor quality and/or non-compliant waste streams;
  • Establish and manage a central technical database on gas yields and technical data on feedstocks based on testing results and actual operational performance;
  • Work with the compliance function and operations to ensure adherence of solid and liquid waste feedstock's with all relevant legislation, regulations and Anaerobic Digestion plant consents;
  • Monitor and report against agreed performance measurements and KPIs. Devise and implement remedial action plans, as necessary;
  • Supervise and manage laboratory testing at AD operations;
  • Ensure all plants achieve the PAS110 standard for digestate and that this standard is maintained;
  • Manage the testing and analysis of plastic/contamination residue from operations;
  • Work with Senior Management to develop value enhancements for key by-products such as digestate, plastic/contamination residue and others;
  • Provide technical input and undertake technical review for new development opportunities;


Person

This is a business critical and high profile position that has been created through key strategic development to drive the business success further. The ideal candidate will have gained a technical foundation by graduating from a Science related Degree/HND such as Chemistry or Biology. To complement this, 5 years' expertise in material assessment from input, throughput and outputs would be very beneficial. The ideal candidate will ideally have experience from within one of the fully operational AD (Anaerobic Digestion) businesses or associated AD business. Other sectors of interest include a waste background, Utilities/Water, Sludge/Slurry or associated food or animal feed business.

The personal qualities are just as important and will hold you in good stead - self-responsible; driven; effective communication skills; results focused; team player.

  • Food waste AD (Anaerobic Digestion), Biogas or direct related sector is essential especially being able to quickly identify and assess the gas yield and optimum recipes of solid and liquid waste feedstocks in AD plants;
  • Experience gained in providing technical guidance and advice in a dynamic business to business commercial and a highly regulated environment;
  • Good communicator, both verbal and written, and able to quickly communicate technical information to non-technical managers;
  • Effective team player with a “Can-Do” attitude;
  • Ability to and willingness to travel between businesses, customers and supplier sites;
  • Self-motivated with a passion for achieving the best results for the business.
