Nursing and Midwifery Council

Leading the way in public and patient safety

These are crucial roles directly involved in influencing an important public protection agenda.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council is the largest and one of the most influential professional regulators in the UK. Millions of people UK-wide are cared for by the 692,550 nurses and midwives we regulate. Our job is to ensure those nurses and midwives practice safely.

To do this, we need to be capable of responding to the rapidly changing healthcare landscape in which nurses and midwives work, adapting our approach to regulation accordingly.

We have already begun an exciting programme to help us transform into the dynamic, intelligent regulator envisaged in our five year strategy and deliver better value for money.

The last year has seen us deliver some significant national agendas. However, with further organisational and regulatory reform on the horizon, the role of the Council has never been more important. It is in this context that we are seeking to appoint two new Lay Council Members.

We are looking for individuals of outstanding calibre, with a proven track record gained ideally at board level in organisations of scale and complexity.

We welcome interest from candidates with experience gained in leading major organisation-wide transformation agendas, candidates with financial expertise and/or from individuals with experience of working in or with major government departments.

No background or experience in the health sector is required.

We regulate across the UK and welcome applications from across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. We are particularly keen to attract a diverse field of suitable candidates and encourage applications from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) candidates and disabled candidates.

If you believe you have the expertise, ambition and passion for ensuring the very best standards of care for patients and the public, please click apply for a candidate brief containing application details, or contact us quoting reference 60820.

Closing date is Noon on 6 February 2017.

Members of the Council receive an annual allowance of £13,250 with an average time commitment of three days per month.
