JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Care Support Worker / Child and Young Person Carer that has a warm, patient and caring approach.

Working as the Care Support Worker / Child and Young Person Carer you will join the school’s childcare team that provides a safe and nurturing environment to vulnerable children and young people with autism and severe learning difficulties. This role involves providing care and support to student’s mornings, evenings and weekends being a student’s Key Worker with some management responsibility.

For all posts the school look for candidates who are able to demonstrate maturity, and who are warm, creative and open to learning. As the Care Support Worker / Child and Young Person Carer you must have a patient and caring approach and be able to deal sensitively with vulnerable children.

IDEAL CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

As the Care Support Worker / Child and Young Person Carer you will have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children, young people or adults with additional educational needs with the experience in the challenges that come with supporting positive behaviour
  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) or willing to study for this qualification within 2 years of commencement of employment
  • Ability to respond calmly and gently to the needs of children and young people with Learning Difficulties, Autism, particularly when they are communicating through behaviour that can be challenging
  • Ability to define and implement student’s IEP’s (Individual Education Plans), to keep records and write reports that are of good quality
  • Ability to organise and carry out activity plans for individual and groups of children/young people, drawing on new ideas to promote young people’s self-confidence, independence and connections in the local community
  • Willingness to take part in the daily routines of life at the school, including supporting young people with intimate personal care, household tasks
  • Willingness to accompany children/ young people to take part in a range of preferred activities of their choice, including swimming, at the school and at community facilities
