The Friends & Neighbours (FANs) Sunderland project is a new initiative to work with care homes in Sunderland to promote, encourage and support the development of networks. The the project aims to work with families, friends, providers of services etc.to maximise residents’ quality of life according to their individual needs and wishes whilst supporting meaningful and sustained links between care homes and communities through Increased social participation.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate experience of proactively promoting community development work and possess skills to liaise with Care Home Managers to develop and sustain the FANs initiative. To recruit, support and develop FANs volunteers to work in Sunderland Care Homes
This post is a two year fixed term contract.
The successful candidate will be required to:
Liaise with Care Home Managers to develop and sustain the FANs initiative.
Recruit, support and develop FANs volunteers to work in Sunderland Care Homes
Supervise and monitor the volunteers to ensure all are targets are achieved
Work with local business’s to encourage support and engagement with their local care homes and the FANs movement.
Work with agencies such as churches, schools, and community groups to engage with their local Care Home and offer support
Establish and support the Care Homes Activity Co-ordinator & Volunteers Forum
Monitor the project in order to assess the impact and provide written reports/summaries as required
Keep a record of clients, volunteers and Care Homes accessing the service on Charity Log
Ensure excellent standards of service delivery
Take organisational lead, internally and externally in relation to all service issues
Liaise appropriately with external agencies
Be aware of Health and Safety issues
Act as a Safeguard Alerter
The post holder must essentially have:
Understanding of and empathy with the needs and aspirations of older people living in Care Homes
Experience of working with, recruiting and supporting volunteers.
Experience of working with Care Homes
Experience of community engagement and development work
Experience of project delivery
Ability to manage a busy workload, prioritise and work independently
Be I.T. literate
Have experience of marketing and promotion
Excellent communication skills
Be honest, reliable and trustworthy and have a flexible approach to work.
Have complete discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Possess a full, clean driving licence and have access to a car for work with the ability to travel to different locations within Sunderland.
