Holy Trinity and St. Andrew’s Community Church (together HTCD) form an Anglican Church family of some 350 people. Serving this Parish are 8 ministry staff.  Enabling their work and supporting the church family is an administrative team of 5 (FTE 3).  We are now recruiting a Finance Officer to join our friendly team in our office at the Church Rooms, 2a Avenue Place, Combe Down, Bath, BA2 5EE.

Our Finance Officer is responsible for financial accounting records using Sage 50 Accounts Plus and Excel 2013 spreadsheets.  The post has end of month, end of quarter and year end duties, particularly; preparation of the annual budget (in conjunction with the treasurer) from bids made by colleagues; preparation of annual accounts for the PCC and for Holy Trinity Trust which holds property on behalf of the church.  For the latter there is a VAT return.

Book keeping tasks include; maintaining Gift Aid records and claiming gift aid repayments; reconciling bank accounts, issuing invoices for church property letting, recording payments from letting, recording invoices from suppliers and making payments, recording inventory, maintaining accurate staff records for payroll and pension providers, making pension payments, managing petty cash transactions and payment of expense claims to staff.  

You will also assist the Operations Manager with contract management and general administration duties.

  • maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • have excellent organisational and time management skills
  • be able to prioritise work in relation to tight deadlines
  • have excellent communication skills

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant bookkeeping qualification – AAT or equivalent or proven accounts experience is essential.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience of using Sage 50 or similar accounting packages is essential.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills are required
