Person and Job Specification

The Role:

The role is for a part-time Financial Controller providing maternity cover for 8 months starting in February 2017. The Financial Controller will work 4 days per week and be solely responsible for the accounting function including all statutory and management reporting. This is an operational role in a small company so the job will incorporate some "hands on" elements on a daily basis, so candidates must be willing to get stuck in.

This role will be required to cover year end processes for the March 2017 year end; including first-year transition to IFRS financial statements (which are simple financial statements with few complex transactions) and tax computation, including R&D tax credits. The job holder will also be responsible for external and internal reporting from the Navision system.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

• Year-end close, including preparation and timely submission of IFRS financial statements & tax computation
• Cashflow management including regular cashflow projections across multiple projects
• Monthly routines including preparation of management accounts (including balance sheet reconciliations) and reporting, payroll & pensions & other monthly routines
• Management of final stages of implementation of Microsoft Navision Dynamics as primary accounting package
• Line management of part-time Accounts Assistant (who is responsible for Purchase ledger and VAT returns etc)
• Management and improvement of purchasing process and system (via Microsoft Navision Dynamics)
• Reforecasts as required (usually bi-annually) and budget preparation
• Internal and external report preparation, including writing of new reports as required
• Assist project managers with financial control
• Liaise with HMRC as required regarding any tax matters, share option valuations, etc
• Statutory filings as required
• Attendance at monthly Management Meetings to report on Finance matters
• Other ad hoc relevant tasks as required

Shortlisting and Interview Criteria

Knowledge and Experience:

Ideally Essential:

• Experience of preparing and filing R&D tax credit claims and Corporation Tax Computations
• Experience of preparing and filing IFRS financial statements
• Experience of using Microsoft Navision Dynamics (and ideally Jet Reports)
• Experience of rigorous cash management
• A suitable qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) and experience in a similar role
• Willing to take a hands on approach

Desirable:

• Experience of Purchasing processes including the controls around these
• Experience of IFRS first-year adoption
• Experience of working in an all-round finance role within an SME
