Engineering Buyer

Peterborough

Salary circa £35k per annum plus benefits


Due to business growth and expansion we are currently looking to recruit an experienced Engineering Buyer.

We manufacture our products world-wide in the UK and China creating a solid platform for the processing of our most important materials: polymer concrete, galvanised steel, plastic and ductile iron.

Position Description:

  • The buyer will be responsible for sourcing and delivery of components for specific programmes, managing the vehicle launch with a number of key suppliers.
  • The buyer will also be required to support the development of the material strategy for international projects as well as leading a number of complex supply chain optimization projects
  • Day to day purchasing administrative duties relating to purchasing function including but not restricted to: Order Entry, Maintenance of supplier pricing files, GRN’s.

Key Skills Required For Submission:

  • Professional with a proven track record in a purchasing or other commercial negotiating environment, possessing strong influencing and negotiating expertise
  • Ownership for delivery of a number of complex strategic, high-profile projects, effectively managing project risk and mitigation strategies through to project launch
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel Skills

Skills Required:

  • Highly organized and continually focused on attention to detail is essential
  • Ability to lead and drive a complex set of priorities/projects with minimal management supervision
  • Excellent supplier relationship management and cross functional leadership skills

Experience Required:

  • Previous experience of launching new products or services
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and experience
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to converse at all levels both internally and externally
  • An ability to develop supplier relationship dynamics to react to changing market dynamics in the buyer / supplier relationships

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience of new supplier introduction desirable but not essential
  • Able to devise, manage and execute complex negotiations successfully
  • Experience of dealing with global companies with high value revenue is desired
  • Experience of dealing with Steel and Plastics would be an advantage
  • Leadership of process improvement initiatives
  • Leadership of the development and implementation of cost models for use in negotiation
  • Knowledge of MRP & MRP II Systems

Education Preferred:

  • CIPS but not essential

Additional Information:

  • Driving License required


In return we offer a competitive salary, dependent on experience.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:00 with a 30 minute unpaid break for lunch
