This exciting role will manage the strategy and execution of IT infrastructure for the School and to research, plan and implement the most recent technologies and developments relevant to this environment. Tasks will include directing the effective delivery of networks, hardware, software and operating systems and overseeing technical project developments that are in line with the School’s values and strategic goals.

The Head of IT Services is responsible for an IT team that currently comprises of 4 trained IT technicians.

Job Description
Strategic Development

·         Formulate the School’s IT infrastructure strategy using input from senior staff, consultants and contractors where appropriate. Execution of such plans and manage progress with regard to time, quality and cost.

·         Contribute to formulating the School’s MIS strategy by assisting in the evaluation of IT solutions, proposing creative and inspiring suggestions for improvements.

·         Develop strong and positive working relationships with School staff to maximise the potential of IT and its development.

·         Ensure appropriate Safeguarding and Health & Safety compliance and that all risk assessments and contractor safety checks are carried out.

·         Provide overall IT governance for the School

Person Specification

The Head of IT Services will have the relevant experience, knowledge & technical competence to perform the role. Essential to that role will be a strong track record of achievement in:

·         Defining and executing IT strategy within a similar environment

·         Delivering quality IT services in a medium sized/large IT environment

·         Senior level management of IT department

·         Managing a team of IT staff and professionals

·         Managing projects, either personally or through others; and of managing change

·         Evidencing effective and efficient resource management, with the ability to deliver significant and sustained cost control without detriment to overall quality of service being provided.

·         Evidencing an up to date and future view of technical developments within the IT industry

·         Ability to confront issues and take difficult decisions, particularly in relation to staffing and financial matters.

Qualifications:

·         A degree or equivalent professional qualification

·         Microsoft system qualification e.g. MCSE or equivalent

·         The Head of IT Services will have considerable experience of an IT department and budgets and will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. A proven track record of working with contractors is also essential.

They will also have the following personal competencies and skills:

·         High levels of literacy

·         Able to inspire and motivate others through verbal and written communications

·         Good time management skills; organised

·         Proactive and assertive, enthusiastic and confident

·         Patient and enjoys attention to detail

·         Able to use initiative

·         Willingness to accept that the role will require some work outside ‘normal hours’

·         Comfortable with the need to operate in a changing and sometimes uncertain environment.

Along with all other staff at the School, The Head of IT Services has a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children.

Terms of appointment

Salary up to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus excellent benefits.
