Our client is a fast-growing, complicated, small company, which uses an infrastructure of computerised systems and websites as key resources. These generate accounting and business information, which must be analysed and interpreted in order to optimise business processes across all functions in the company. This is a new position with a wide-ranging remit and potential for career growth within an expanding business.

Reporting to:Managing / Finance Director

Responsible for:Preparation of management accounts, analysis and reporting of business information and providing a management accounting service to the business.

Key Responsibilities
1Management Accounts
Evaluation and reporting of product and service gross margins.
Preparation of project accounts and financial reviews of projects.
Monitoring of revenue and capital expenditure against budget, analysis of variances together with analytical commentary.
Preparation of monthly Management Accounts together with analysis and commentary.
Preparation of analyses to support the annual financial statements of the company.

2Website statistical analysis
Collection, analysis and commentary on website statistics including the results of SEO and PPC activities. This responsibility is carried out by working closely with the Webmaster and the Marketing Manager in order to inject management accounting expertise into analysing processes that are vital to enquiry acquisition and conversion. There is a need to work with website data tools including Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.

3Business Information Analysis
Collection and analysis of business information from a range of business processes together with the preparation of analytical commentary that includes all KPIs. This remit covers all functions and includes marketing, sales, project implementation and support, contract administration, stock control, etc. The systems currently used include Zoho (a marketing campaign database), Autotask (a CRM tool that also contains project control, support ticketing and contract management functionality) and Sage50 (a package that covers GL, SL, PL, SOP, POP and stock control).

4Business Planning & Forecasting
Contributing to the preparation and maintenance of product roadmaps, which are the key business planning tool currently used for managing the introduction of new products and enhancements to existing products.
Contributing to business planning activities at the operational and strategic levels.
Preparation of operating budgets as part of the Operational Plan.
Preparation of year-end and other forecasts.

5Business Systems
Contributing to the development of accounting and business systems, and processes across the company. This includes involvement with implementing unused functionality within existing computerised systems. Further implementation of Sage50 functionality and a review of invoicing processes are planned.

6Accounting Systems
There is a requirement to understand all existing accounting systems and processes as background knowledge for the main job role, as a basis for further system implementation activity and also to enable the jobholder to provide cover for the Accounts Assistant, should that be necessary.

7Internal Audit & Investigations
Review and reporting on business processes across the business from time to time to verify that processes are being adhered to and that business information is accurate.
Review and commentary on project implementations independent of the Operations function.
8Management Accounting Support Service
Providing a support service by working with all departments and members of the management team to contribute to business and financial decision-making. Offering accounting expertise and advising on ways to improve business performance.

Qualification needed:
A formal accounting qualification (preferably CIMA)

Experience required:
Management accounting including preparation of management accounts.
High level of IT literacy including extensive experience of Excel
Used to working in a small accounting team.
Knowledge of Sage 50 would be ideal, but not essential.
