Head of Legal Services / In-House Senior Lawyer / Qualified Solicitor / Barrister that has an excellent all round generalist background covering a range of legal / compliance issues with senior management / department / team leadership experience is required by a leading Charity based in Reading, Berkshire.
SALARY: Circa £70,000 per annum + Excellent Benefits

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Head of Legal Services / In-House Senior Lawyer / Qualified Solicitor / Barrister that has an excellent all round generalist background covering a range of legal / compliance issues with senior management / department / team leadership experience
Working as the Head of Legal Services / In-House Senior Lawyer / Qualified Solicitor / Barrister you will be responsible for leading the Company’s Legal Team and delivering the optimum level of service, ensuring that core activities and strategies are legally compliant.
As the Head of Legal Services / In-House Senior Lawyer / Qualified Solicitor / Barrister you will have a minimum 2:2 degree. You will provide in-house generalist advice and head up the Legal Team.

DUTIES
Your duties and responsibilities as the In-House Senior Lawyer / Head of Legal Services / Qualified Solicitor / Barrister:
- Identify key legal issues within the organisation and to prioritise appropriately distinguishing those which significantly impact on the Company’s financial position from those which could, otherwise than for legal intervention, seriously damage the Company’s reputation
- Highlight the risks entering into arrangements affecting the Company by providing non-specialist legal advice including:
- Commercial contracts and outsourcing arrangements
- Fundraising and sponsorship agreements and arrangements
- Agreements with supporter schemes
- Agreements with Local Authorities
- Intellectual Property Rights
- General property matters (including strategic advice)
- Dispute Resolution (including complaints) and litigation
- Data Protection
- General legacies, trusts and probate
- Charity and company law
- General disability discrimination laws
- Manage the Legal Team developing staff as necessary to ensure efficient, effective and timely support is provided as required
- Implement corporate acquisitions, disposals and mergers and collaborative ventures; ensuring that due diligence disclosures enable proper commercial evaluation prior to completion of a transaction; and ensuring that the correct authority is in place to allow timely execution of documentation
- Lead, propose, develop and deliver legal services’ strategy for supporting the Company in its legal requirements and to have direct access to Executive Board and to the Board of Trustees as required by the Solicitors Code of Conduct
- Influence all staff within the organisation by advising them of legal issues generally and any forthcoming changes in the legislative framework affecting the Company and to ensure that staff are provided with appropriate legal training where relevant
- Act as the representative of Legal Services on the Operational Board
- Manage and lead on how the overall organisation’s professional legal fees expenditure should be spent in an efficient and effective manner
IDEAL CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales
- Leadership experience in managing a Legal Team
- Hold or be capable of applying for a practising certificate
- Practical and proportionate approach to problem solving
- Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team where necessary
- Good communication and drafting skills
- Flexibility and the ability to handle a wide range of tasks at all levels
- IT Literate
- Eligibility to work in the UK
