Senior Development Chemist - Formulated Materials

Due to expansion and progression within the company my client is now looking for a Senior Development Chemist - Formulated Material to join their Research & Development team which is based in Northamptonshire where you would have experience of research related to Polymer Science, Material Science or Composite Engineering. You will working on formulated materials for various industries including: Paint Industry, Industrial coatings and structural adhesives. They are taking base polymers / resins and mixing them with other chemicals to produce various formulated materials including - Gel Coats, Fire Retardant and adhesives for metal on metal. Job Purpose for the Senior Development Chemist - Formulated Materials: To provide and manage a mix of long and short term development projects within the Formulated Materials Development team for new and modified products and provide technical support to the businesses and their customers in the areas of the job holder's expertise. To provide support for new business development and manage the development of new, speculative ideas into projects. To deputise for the Formulated Materials Development Manager as and when required. Principle accountabilities for the Senior Development Chemist - Formulated Materials will include: To plan, manage and execute long term development and technical support activities according to the plan for the Formulated Materials Development department, including work for the Global businesses and their customers and work identified by the Business Development function within R&D. To develop and evaluate new products for new and existing applications, to bring them to market speedily and effectively, and to be responsible for the provision of formulations and manage the scaling up of new products. Skills required for the Senior Development Chemist - Formulated Materials will include: Experience of research related to Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science, Adhesives, surface coatings or Composites. At least 5 years significant experience with developing new and modified formulated products such as adhesives, gelcoats, fire retardant systems, formulated thermoset systems and tooling systems. Experience of scaling up new product development into a manufacturing plant.
