The Co-op is changing fast as we look to become the number one convenience retailer in the UK. With a new membership scheme that no competitor can offer, there's a real buzz around our stores. Following the new brand, we've already refitted over 650 stores and opened up a further 30 this year. And, we've been crowned Convenience Retailer of the year and received the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2016 Retail Industry Awards. We pride ourselves on the communities we serve and there is no better time to join the Co-op as we invest in our people, stores and technology. As an Assistant Store Manager you'll support the store manager to lead, inspire and develop your team as you spend most of your day on the shop floor. As a community pioneer, you'll help to build key relationships throughout the local area and support local businesses. In an ever changing and increasingly competitive market you'll help support the store manager to seek opportunities to improve store performance. What you'll do * Support your team from the front as you work towards team and individual performance goals. * Working with and supporting your local community to increase store awareness in the area. * Running all aspects of the store operation in the absence of the store manager. * Making sure that the customer experience in store is always at the heart of every decision made. To be a successful Assistant Store Manager you'll ideally have a retail or hospitality background as we need you to pick things up quickly. And, with your previous experience of managing a small team, you'll be able to inspire and instil confidence as we go through lots of positive change. Having previously worked with your local community, helping to set up local initiatives should come naturally to you, and the benefits of doing this won't need explaining. You'll also have experience of managing change and looking for opportunities to increase store performance. What you need * Previous retail or hospitality experience??? we welcome all applications from other retail sectors, not just food. * Proven leadership skills from managing and developing a small team. * Able to show how you've previously worked within your local community, either through fund-raising or supporting local businesses. * Able to demonstrate how you've previously found ways to increase sales and performance within your previous roles. If you can help us grow our business, we can offer you a whole world of opportunity. As well as a competitive salary and some brilliant benefits, you'll get the chance to develop your skills and progress your career with a business that puts people at the heart of its strategy. Why Co-op? 172 years ago a group of businessmen in Rochdale created an idea that changed the world. They believed that when people work together, they're stronger. And that principles are just as important as profits. They were pioneers. And they left us a legacy that's never been more important or relevant than it is today. We want to change the world all over again. And we know that to achieve our goal, we need to recruit teams that reflect the communities we serve. We're committed to equal opportunities, and we're re-discovering the pioneering spirit on which a British institution was built. If you believe in our purpose, then join us. And make a real contribution to the revival of an iconic brand. Location: Wilsden, Bradford (Part Time) Salary: GBP18,500 - GBP21,500 pro rata
